The new kid on the block, Veer

PDN touched briefly on Corbis’ new microstock offering through Veer, called Veer Marketplace.  The site is now live and in it’s first stage of beta, with the full site being released this summer.

Veer marketplace is sourcing it’s images from the ‘has been’ .. or perhaps ‘never was’ microstock site, snapvillage.com, which was Corbis’ first attempt at microstock photography.  Snapvillage will be fazed out as Veer Marketplace is fazed in.

The thing that is exciting about the Veer Marketplace is that they are placing their microstock offering along side their traditional stock photography offering.  Veer is the first site to incorporate both licensing models in a single website.  When a buyer makes a search for an image, two tabs of results are presented.  One for the microstock images and one for traditionally licensed images.

Personally I think it is a great idea.  Microstock is hardly a secret, and if a buyer wants a microstock image, they are going to find one weather it is incorporated into a site or not.  With Veer, they have the option without going to another site.  Buyers can purchase everything in one spot with one account, something that is important to professional customers.
